Wants and Needs

Someone from church contacted me tonight to ask how I was and if there was anything I needed. So I told her that my husband and I need a bed because our bed is now the bed my stepchild sleeps in, while we sleep separately because of space issues. I don’t foresee her actually looking into beds for us. I do foresee her thinking I was being rude and selfish and deviating from some social norm where I’m supposed to only ask for a cup of sugar because that’s what’s easiest on her to supply.

We need a bed, so I said we need a bed.
