“No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother.”
— Margaret Sanger
Oh then good thing abortion is legal in America! That means women are free!
so now feminism can disband and help men have rights over their bodies, and have the choice to be a father or not
Abortion is supposed to be legal, but that does not mean that it is accessible. In states like mine, laws are always being proposed and get passed that try to limit that access. Not only that, but the state of Alabama still teaches that anything other than abstinence-only sex ed is illegal to even be suggested. This means that any woman who has not been taught how to procure birth control and who is kept from procuring said birth control is being forced to carry a child that she may not want and may not be able to take care of.
The lack of knowledge regarding birth control, especially condoms, also increases the risk of a person developing a sexually transmitted disease, which can limit the quality of a person’s life and/or the length of time that they will actually live. That’s true for men and women, by the way, so this isn’t just a woman’s sexual health or social issue, it is also an issue for men as well.
(If you’re wondering why I brought up birth control, then you should do a little more research about Sanger. This quote could apply to both birth control and abortion, as Sanger was an advocate for advancing safe and legal access to both.)
