This is a meme that I participate in every year on LiveJournal. Even if you get nothing, it’s still a fun meme because it allows us to be kids again and make Christmas lists. Let’s face it, that kind of dreaming and hope is fun. So here’s my wishlist this year. If you want to make one, leave me a link and I’ll post it here. THE ORIGINAL MEME: STEP ONE Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered… whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (“I’d love a Snape/Hermione icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV”). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required! Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread. STEP TWO Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here’s the important part… You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to be someone else’s holiday elf – to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not – it’s your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just… wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special. THE LIST I have listed more than 10 things. My list this year is a little different from past ones. I have always requested chocolate, but I developed an allergy to peanuts this last year, so I thought it might not be the best idea to request food anymore. I know it’s weird for me to mention this here. 1. Donate to any of these organizations: 1in6 ACLU, ADL, Alabama Arise, ASPCA, Black Lives Matter, CAIR, Center for Reproductive Rights, Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, EarthJustice, EMILY’s List, GreenPeace, Guttmacher, Human Rights Campaign, Human Rights Watch, Lambda Legal, Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, NAACP and its Legal Defense Fund, NARAL, National Abortion Federation, National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, National Organization for Women, NRDC, Planned Parenthood, ProPublica, RAINN, RSF, She Should Run, SPLC, Trevor Project, Union of Concerned Scientists, USA for UNHCR, Women’s Refugee Commission I think that, given the current political/social climate, they’re going to need all of the support they can get. If you want to donate in your name, that’s fine. If you want to donate in my name, that’s fine. 2. A plush-style throw/blanket. I don’t really have any specific color or fandom requests on this.1 3. A subscription to a service like OwlCrate, InfinityCrate, or LootCrate. I have friends who subscribe to these services, and I’m always envious of them. 4. A Barkbox or LootCrate Pet subscription for Amy Pond (my dachshund/boss) because she’s my bestie. She’s not a miniature; she’s about 20 pounds. 5. Funko products featuring any of my fandoms. I have some Pop!, mugs, and a plush, and I think all of their stuff is awesome, so I’m not going to be picky about this. 6. Shot glasses. I don’t drink, I just collect them. 7. Tea pots. I also collect these. 8. Coffee Mugs. Yep, these too. I do drink coffee, though. 9. Makeup. Specifically NYX lip gloss. I’ve run out of some and broken the containers of others. I like all sorts of colors, but the browns don’t look very good on me. 10. Accessories. Hats, socks, scarves, headbands, purses, barettes, necklaces, bracelets. I absolutely need a wallet. Belts if they’re made for plus-size women. 11. Crafting and sewing stuff. Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, sewing, jewelry making stuff, adult coloring books, colored pencils, markers, beads, fabric, safety pins. 12. Obligatory teddy bear/stuffed animal request. 13. Paypal/Square donations (email for that is personal[dot]janet[at]fuzzypinkslippers[dot]com) or donations to my GoFundMe, which will help for repairs needed on my house. There’s also my Patreon, where I’m always looking for patrons. 14. Gift cards from iTunes, Lane Bryant, Starbucks, Target, Torrid, & Zenni. 15. Anything from Amazon.com wishlist. It’s fine if it’s something that’s used or that you find somewhere else. Fandoms 2 Broke Girls, Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Arrowverse, Auburn, The Big Bang Theory, The Blacklist, Charmed, Dakota Johnson, Disney, Doctor Who, Friends, Game of Thrones, Glee, Gilmore Girls, Harry Potter (esp. “my house” Hufflepuff), Hello Kitty, How to Get Away with Murder, Hunger Games, iZombie, Jamie Dornan, Jane the Virgin, Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Marvel, Once Upon a Time, Orphan Black, Outlander, Peanuts, Pretty Little Liars, Project Runway, Scream Queens, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stranger Things, Supernatural, Taylor Swift, True Blood, Twilight, UNC, Westworld Interests Crafts, fashion, reading, listening to music, singing, walking, cooking, hair, makeup, politics (progressive/liberal/left-wing), feminism, green living, cute stuff, photography Favorite colors pink, purple, baby blue, silver, red Contact If you need my address, email me at janet.main@fuzzypinkslippers.com There are two at Walmart that I adore. One is a stock image of London that’s black & white except for a red phone box. The other is a stock picture of Paris. But I would be just as happy with a solid color one. ↩

Holiday Wishlist Meme 2016

This is a meme that I participate in every year on LiveJournal. Even if you get nothing, it’s still a fun meme because it allows us to be kids again and make Christmas lists. Let’s face it, that kind of dreaming and hope is fun. So here’s my wishlist this year. If you want to make one, leave me a link and I’ll post it here. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just… wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special. THE LIST I have listed more than 10 things. Shot glasses, coffee mugs, teapots. I collect these, so I would love to have some new ones to add to my very small collection. Crafting stuff. Knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, adult coloring books. Toys for Amy Pond. She’ll be 3 years old on the 21st of December. She loves squeaky toys, Kongs, pillows, blankets…basically, anything you put in front of her. She’s also a tad destructive on most things, so the less destructible, the better. Home repairs. I have a GoFundMe donation page set up because my house has serious issues and needs to be fixed. We’ve got leaks in the bathrooms, cracks in the walls, a broken window with a piece of metal over it, and we have to walk around on the concrete slab in most rooms because the carpet had to be taken up years ago, but we didn’t have the money to replace it. Our laundry room needs to be rewired and/or we need a new dryer because any time that we try to use it, it knocks the power off. (We have to hang dry all of our clothes in the bathroom with a space heater.) We also need a new roof and siding (some of ours has rotted) and home insurance. (We can’t get any because of the problems listed.) And at some point we’d like to have central air-conditioning back in the house so that we wouldn’t have to rely on window a/c during the summer, but that’s not as necessary as the rest of the things needing to be fixed. The city I live in can sometimes donate siding and shingles if a person has a group willing to put make the repairs, but we’ve got no one willing to do the work. Any help would be really nice, even if it’s in the form of recommendations for groups that help with this sort of thing. Help with my domain hosting bill. It is processed through PayPal, but the money doesn’t go to me. It goes directly to DreamHost, the company that I get my site hosted through, and is automatically applied to my account. The minimum they’ll allow is $10. Help with other bills. I have a GoFundMe for that as well. Guitar. No, I don’t expect anyone to get this for me. I would just like to learn how to play guitar sometime. Gift Cards. Specifically: Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Lane Bryant, iTunes, Starbucks, Target, Torrid, Walmart – Amazon for books, movies, and other things. B&N for books. Lane Bryant & Torrid for clothes, accessories, etc. Having a gift card means that I’m a lot less likely to abuse my credit card with them. Target & Walmart would be used for groceries, makeup, clothes, and conditioner. (My hair dries out easily–which leads to matting and breaking–and Target sells a conditioner that keeps it moisturized.) And iTunes for new music and, in case they never get around to bumping the song limit up, converting my music library to iTunes purchases, so that I can listen to the rest of my music collection. Starbucks is so I can get the occasional drink when I’m not at home.  Anything from my Amazon.com wishlist. Anything on the list would be great. I’ve tried to arrange things from high to low priority, but, as you can probably figure by it simply being on the wishlist, I actually would like to have it. And if you see something on the list that you could get at a cheaper price or used, I’m good with that. Fandom/care packages. Makeup. I’m a ginger, so I have very pale skin. Any colors that look good on people with really light skin will be fine. (I’m not afraid of bright or bold colors.) I mainly wear nail polish, lipstick and eyeshadow. Accessories. Hats, socks, scarves, headbands, purses, barettes, necklaces, bracelets. I absolutely need a wallet. Belts if they’re made for plus-size women. Stuffed animal/plushies. Well wishes. I had knee surgery on the 3rd of December, so […]

LiveJournal Question of the Day #4248: Vaccinations What are your thoughts on vaccinations? Do you personally believe they play any role in the development of autism or other chronic diseases? What diseases would you like to see a vaccine manufactured against over your lifetime? Vaccinations are necessary to prevent epidemics and to prevent deadly & debilitating infections. It is the responsibility of all who are able to take them. This provides a herd immunity, which covers those who are unable to take them and those whose immune systems cannot handle the illnesses. They play absolutely no role in autism. This has been proven with study after study. It has also been discredited as a theory because of Wakefield’s well-known fraud. Most other chronic illnesses that are “linked” to vaccines are not actually from the vaccines. They are actually coincidental. Researchers and vaccine manufacturers to have a responsibility, though, to make sure that vaccines are always healthy. The first future vaccine that pops into my mind in the HIV vaccine, which is already being worked on. Other important ones could include Malaria, Ebola, Chagas disease, dengue fever, parasitical infections, and other diseases that endanger over a billion lives in various parts of the world.

The only remaining sibling of my maternal grandfather1 may have had a stroke. That sucks. I used to love to listen to him tell stories and just talk in general because he was so funny. Because of the possible stroke, my mom has been on the phone with Nana. While they were talking, the “ongoing” angst between my mom’s sister and me was brought up. Apparently, the husband of my mom’s sister is now pissed at me for something I said recently. What it was, I’m not sure. Maybe it was when I compared the Judy Facebook drama on my birthday with the Facebook conversation from hell that went on with Deb, Billy, and my mom’s sister. Well, I’m sorry, but the situations are similar. One relative uses an innocuous post directed at me to start drama, another uses an indirect post about me to do so. I’m basically told in both that there is something wrong with treating me with some level of respect. I get accused of lying/scheming in both. I may not be super great at the whole logic thing, but I have a good enough grasp on it to know that it is perfectly okay to come to the conclusion that similar situations are actually similar. Aside from talking about drama with Judy, the only other posts fuzzypinkslippers.com that I’ve made have been about Twitter, my spaghetti recipe, an upcoming doctor’s appointment, the wackadoodle Mormon grandmother who thought Frozen was a gateway to gay pride parades, a book’s cover reveal, talking about turning 30, the K friendship situation, being the pawn in my parents’ relationship, weird search terms, and politics. Maybe he’s upset by the posts I’ve made on my Tumblr, where I post fandom and other stuff. I do admit that I post pornographic images on there to get those relatives to stop checking it.2 Or maybe he’s upset by something I’ve posted on Twitter. As I post on there frequently and have probably made around a thousand tweets in the last month or so, I can’t remember right off anything else I may have said that could be offensive. I know he can’t be figuring out what I’ve said on my LJ because their repeated checking of that was ended by my making all posts on their Friends Only. What I do know is that if I have said something that they didn’t like and that they found on my blog or on my Tumblr or on my Twitter or any other site on the entire Internet, then it means that they are still looking at those things. I emailed them a long time ago to get them to stop doing this. I’ve blocked them on Facebook. I’ve done that Friends Only thing on LJ. I’ve posted things I knew would make them uncomfortable (porn) to keep them away. I’ve blocked their IP on here and remarked when they’ve used proxies. I’ve done everything I can to keep them from doing this. So if they’re still trying to do this and they’re still blaming me for their personal misery, then…then they need to just grow up and get over it. Yeah, this post probably will get them more riled up, but if they’re bringing up things that they are “discovering” with Nana, then they are being hypocrites. Talking about me to her or with other members of the family is worse than my discussing my relationship issues on my blog or on social media. There aren’t all that many people who read my blog or who follow me on social media when you really think about it. And most of those people do not know me off of the computer and definitely do not know them. The people that they are talking with are the people that do know me offline and that know them offline. And that makes them the big bads in this situation. If people they know are finding out what I’m saying about myself and about my family members, then they are finding it out from them. It would be nice if we could all get along, but I think we all know that will never happen. So we all need to just forget about one another. That is the only way that we can all keep whatever is left of our dignity and sanity. It shouldn’t be that hard for them to drop the thoughts about me. I’m sure my pictures that mom’s sister had have been burned already. And Nana keeps most of her pictures of me back in her bedroom, so when they go over all they really see are pictures of themselves. As for me, I don’t actually talk about them all that much. Just when things like this happen or when other family members start some sort of drama. If we all pretend that our past relationship never happened and that we’re strangers, then I think we’ll all be much happier. So, relatives that dislike me so much, if you’re reading this, maybe you will be happier if you just quit reading stuff. If you will actually leave me alone, I will not talk about you. I honestly was thinking earlier that I hope Steve doesn’t have anything that’s serious or that causes him to die. One reason is I don’t want any of my family members to suffer that sort of loss. Another reason is that I don’t want to try to figure out how we would do funerals and other grieving process stuff. I don’t want to be the reason that the world falls apart and I’m sick of feeling like that’s the way that I’m viewed. the good grandfather ↩According to the Analytics, it seems to work. ↩

Freak Out Much

1
Yesterday, I got the fun phone call from Nana saying that the aunt had decided that they were having Christmas celebrations on Christmas Day. I told Nana that was fine, while simultaneously feeling a lot of rage and a lot like I had been punched in the gut. I was at home alone when it happened so I posted on Twitter about it. A lot. (Sorry about that, folks who follow me.) The aunt claimed that that was the only possible day that she could host Christmas lunch, which is probably bullshit. And it shouldn’t even matter because when she made the separate holiday rules, she decided that if we got one holiday, she got the other. She can’t go changing the rules all willy-nilly and not expect some kind of kerfuffle over it. When my mom called to tell her how this whole thing was disgusting, she gave my mom shit over us not spending last Christmas and Thanksgiving with Nana. You know, the Christmas and Thanksgiving where my mom was still recovering from the surgery on her ankle and couldn’t walk. Yeah, that one. And she gave my mom shit over my not apologizing for ragging on them in 2011 when I found out on the news about my cousin’s son having a developmental disorder. Actually, what she was upset about was that I said there was something wrong with my cousin’s son. I was annoyed that I found out about his diagnosis at the same time as thousands of other people, and she’s annoyed because now I’ve pointed it out on my blog so that the rest of the world can know about it. It sometimes feels like she‘s ashamed that he has this issue. There is nothing shameful about having a developmental disorder, just like there isn’t anything shameful about having any other neurological (or, for that matter, any type of physical or mental health) problem. And I’ve said this stuff over and over on here. I’m not going to apologize any more for that event. I’m also not going to apologize for the 2002 thing that she’s still upset over. I’m not going apologize or admit that I’m the bad person here because I’m not. I made errors. I do that. It’s sort of expected from a human being. You know that whole “to err is human” quote. Well, it applies to me. I’m not perfect. If I did something that I felt bad about, I would apologize for it, but, at this point, I don’t feel sorry for this stuff. I apologized to people at the time things happened. At this point, if she’s still got a problem over it, then that’s her problem. I wish that she would stop causing trouble for our whole family. I do wish that others hadn’t taken her side because I don’t think this should be the kind of thing that splits a family into a side-taking venture. Anyway, I’ve included some captures of Analytics and Twitter related to this. The maps include visits that she made or that people made on her behalf. On the other stuff, it’s just ones that either she or someone from her house made. This includes the LiveJournal and fuzzypinkslippers.com visits. The LiveJournal visits that ended in 2012 did so because I made that journal Friends Only at that point. And the number is so low from her in particular now because her IP has been blocked. That’s why I included the one where someone from her city came here via a proxy, which occurred after the IP banning. I didn’t include anything from Tumblr, where I really did start reblogging porn just to keep her away. And, yes, my cussing really did increase because I wanted to keep her away.  And I digress. So, back to the holiday thing, Nana ended up deciding that she wanted to spend Christmas day with us. The visits to my aunt’s house are too hard on her. They’re about 45 minute drives each way and that’s really not a fun thing for someone with the health problems that Nana has to endure. Hell, it’s not a fun thing for healthy people to endure. I guess that we “won” this round, which should make me happy, but doesn’t because I really hate that all of this happens. And now I shall go back to my corner where I’m paranoid that she’ll get pissed about this post and do something even worse.

Yes, I’m the One with the Problem

And now, here’s the important part… If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use – or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free – do it. You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. THE LIST Shot glasses – I’ve just started collecting these, so I would love to have some new ones to add to my very small collection. Postcards – I like to get mail of the non-bill variety and postcards are always so awesome to look at. I’ve never really been anywhere big, but postcards kind of give me a way to do that without leaving my house. Books – I’ve read almost 200 books in the last year, so I think books are definitely something that I could see being useful in the next year. They can be new, used, or just recommendations. Crafting stuff – I’ve started learning how to do knitting recently, and I’m planning on learning how to do crochet & to sew as well, so I would love some supplies or patterns or just some suggestions. Toys for Amy Pond – She’ll be a year old on the 21st of December. She tears toys up really easily, so she’s only got a couple that are still in good enough shape for her to play with. Help with my domain hosting bill – It is processed through PayPal, but the money doesn’t go to me. It goes directly to DreamHost, the company that I get my site hosted through, and is automatically applied to my account. The minimum they’ll allow is $10. Guitar – No, I don’t expect anyone to get this for me. I would just like to learn how to play guitar sometime. Surprise me Gift Cards – Amazon.com, Target, and Barnes and Noble Anything from my Amazon wishlist
