from Nellie

  1. I can touch my tongue to both my nose and my chin.
  2. I always wanted to take jazz dance as a kid (because my friends did), but I wasn’t any good at it.  (I was better at ballet and tap.)
  3. I can do this nose twitch thing that makes my nose look kind of like a bunny or guinea pig nose.
  4. I’ve been asthmatic since I was a baby and am allergic to cigarette smoke.
  5. I was the first person in my fourth grade class to get the Good Citizen of the Week, and I went on to get it 2 more times that year.
  6. Speaking of elementary school, I once had a teacher count off on a paper (in fifth grade) because she thought I spelled Oreo wrong.
  7. I once broke my foot by dancing to Christina Aguilera’s “Come on Over” or Britney Spears’ “Oops! I Did It Again”.  (I broke it while dancing while watching TRL.)
  8. I started voice lessons when I was in middle school.  I went to the same voice coach as my best friend at the time.  (The coach was the best friend of my middle school teacher.)  Eventually, a girl who always hated me ended up going to the same voice teacher.
  9. I once spent about $500 on eBay buying Beanie Babies.
  10. For the most part, animals don’t dislike me.  They tend to come up to me without me calling them.  Aggressive ones tend to let me pet them or hold them, even if no one .  I’ve only really been bitten by 1 animal, and it was because she got scared.  (She was a hamster named Baby Janet, aka BJ.)  I have been terrified of chihuahuas since I was about 5 or 6 and I accidentally stepped on the tail of my great uncle’s chihuahua. It yelped, which terrified me, and I have never felt calm around them since.

You’re a Firework

1
January

This past year has been pretty good–not too bad in the grand scheme of things, I guess. There were the friendships that I am so glad that I’ve had (Ashley, Kara, Hannah, Kate, Bren, Jonna, and everyone else) and the ones that I’ve been sad to lose. All in all, this year was okay.

So, what is this entry about? Basically a way for me to sneak in my top music of the last year. Haha. Keep in mind that these lists cannot be considered fully accurate since last.fm’s scrobbler went all wonky and didn’t always add my listens, but here we go.

A Personal Appeal

21
November

So, if you’ve been on Wiki lately, you probably have seen dear Jimmy Wales’ “personal appeal” for moolah to keep his beloved Wikipedia running. I think it’s kind of weird that he is doing a “personal appeal” to the users of that site to donate $20, $35, $50, $75, $100, $150, or $250. How many avid Wikipedia users have that much money that they can fork over to someone that really doesn’t need it? It seems like a guy who went to one of the most expensive schools that Huntsville (when I was a kid, it was the most expensive school in town) has to offer would know that the bigger money might come from computer illiterate people who have lots of money and no eBay or Amazon or porn sites to spend it on.

Oh, speaking of Wales, I was reading his bio the other day and saw that his mom is Doris Ann Dudley Wales and his father is Jimmy Wales. Well, once upon a time, there was this sweet older couple who ran a pharmacy. They started their own pharmacy about 12-13 years ago. It was a nice place to go to and see their wall of postcards from where they liked to travel. (They traveled a lot.) One day, about 8-9 years ago, they disappeared. Not literally. They had sold their pharmacy to another local pharmacy without telling any of their employees or customers. Then, they left town. I think they went to North Carolina. The couple was named Doris Dudley Wales and Jimmy Wales. I remember because I have this tendency to look at the licenses and degrees of pharmacists, doctors, etc. So, yeah…I figured out that Jimbo’s parents ran a pharmacy that I’d used.

I was supposed to call my gynecologist this past week to find out what the results of my D&C were. I forgot. I was also supposed to schedule an appointment for 2 weeks from the procedure date to go back to see him. I forgot, but I’m fairly certain that I couldn’t go back in exactly 2 weeks after ’cause it’s Thanksgiving.

Oh, and Nana called this week to tell us that Aunt Barbara is going to prepare the Thanksgiving dinner (lunch) this year. She decided that since my mom has been off her feet/not feeling well and I’m not feeling well that she would do it. I thought that was really sweet. So, that’s a bit of a load off my mind.

This coming Friday is the Iron Bowl. It is also Black Friday. In the State of Alabama, Black Friday will probably be observed the next day, since Auburn vs. Alabama is like two Mafia families battling it out or Michael vs. Lucifer (Supernatural style) or Buffy vs. the First or Haley vs. Robert Pattinson. Basically, shit’s about to get real.

Ooh, I need to do the music thing.

They See Me Rollin’, They Hatin’

13
February

When I was little, I wanted to be Whitney Houston. I doubt that I’ve mentioned that on here before. I may have, though, but when I was young, I dreamed of becoming Whitney Houston when I grew up. I wanted to be her, with the ability to dance of Michael Jackson, as well as my own book deal, the ability to do hair, and a degree in teaching. Of course, this was an illogical thing to wish for since I was (well, still am) a redhead with those strange little turquoisey blue eyes with different colors in ‘em (love that heterochromia). It was also illogical because apparently a combination of weight and funny genes (not quite funny syphillis funny, though) determined that I couldn’t go around dancing anymore after my mid-teens. (I tried to get around this by dancing to a Britney Spears video in 2000. This resulted in a broken foot.) I also am still suffering from the Bellatrix hair that I mentioned in my Tumblr last week and featured as my Facebook profile picture for Doppleganger week. As for the degree in teaching, I’m fairly certain that we can all agree that I should not be allowed near small children. That might lead to dangerous fuzzy liberal thinking and stuff…I don’t know what part of that is worse, the thinking or the fuzzy liberalness of it.

I didn’t become Whitney, despite my wishing and hoping and thinking and praying. That kind of bummed me out for a while, until I learned of her marriage to Bobby Brown and, what I hope was, her subsequent downfall into drugs and happy-hippie-dipping-in-the-Jordan-River. Of course, she redeemed herself.

I didn’t become a lot of the things that I set out to become in my life. I wanted to be a singer, but for about 3 years, my voice wouldn’t do anything other than talk. I wanted to be a dancer, so my body played the arthritis-fibromyalgia-autoimmune card on me. I wanted to do hair for a living, so I was reminded that I loathed how people touched my “beautiful red hair” and how that made me feel used and cheap. (I may be cheap, but I shall never be forced to feel used!) I didn’t become a teacher, because I determined in 8th grade after being turned over for truancy to a pre-court thing that I absolutely loathed school. (For the record, I was not actually truant. I had gotten a letter from my doctor in 2nd or 3rd grade that said that sometimes I would get so sick that I would just be out of school for a month at a time. This letter, which was 100% legit, had worked for 6 years before anyone challenged it. That year, of course, my gallbladder had failed and no one believed me for 2 months while I was getting all kinds of tests, then I hurt my knees and foot, and finally ended up with the flu, asthma problems, bronchitis, and a boocoodle of other problems.) I didn’t become a music producer, which was an unofficial major for me. I didn’t even get to try to become a doctor because my mom said I couldn’t handle the staying up for days on end…um, that’s not necessarily true. (I can sometimes go days without sleeping at all!) I decided after I entered the Social Work program that Social Work was teh suck when it came to majors for me, but before I got to the point where I nearly finished and got kicked out for being teh crazy. I have yet to get a degree, and don’t know if and when I ever will. At this point, I think I should be given an honorary doctorate. (I’m not kidding, since I’ve been in and out [mainly in] of college since August of 2001.)

Of course, going back to school might entail going to UAH again, which I’m not that scared of. Typically, shootings don’t occur in the same place twice, right? So, I should be safe. Of course, Amy Bishop isn’t the first professor who has allegedly killed people. (A physics professor was convicted of killing his wife, who also worked for UAH, a couple of years ago.) But, as far as I know, the liberal arts department hasn’t had any killing teachers yet. Besides, given my ability to not get all scared when the knife got pulled on me during my interview for Social Work (it was part of a role-playing thing, and yes it was an actual knife), I think I might be able to handle it. Of course, that was a little different, since I was in no danger.

Oh, I’ve figured out that I’m a bad luck charm. When I was a little kid, a relative of mine wanted to meet me before she died. She had been saying that for months. She died right after she met me, like the next day. (She was 99.) A semi-distant cousin had her home, as well as her mother’s home, struck by a tornado. Her husband was killed in the tornado, leaving her daughter and her unborn son without a father. A dance teacher I had as a child was killed on a rainy road in 1995 or 1996. In 1998, the day after my mom and I dropped off a refund of the payment that the parents of my friend Sara had paid for her to go to Chicago on a choir trip, her brother (who had had the same Algebra book that I had that year) decided to go after the family with various sharp weaponry. (If you want to look it up, search google for Jeffrey Franklin Huntsville.) That same year, there was a school shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It was at a school that my parents had considered sending me to if we had moved to Jonesboro the year before. (I had insisted that we not move there.) In 1999, Patrick, the kid that I sat next to in my 8th grade homeroom, was killed by his father, as was his younger sister, before the father killed himself. The dorm that I stayed in in 2005 had a girl whose room was set on fire and she had to jump from the window. I had a friend killed in a drunk driving crash last year. And now the school that currently holds my transcripts has had a “school shooting”. (BTW – it was a workplace shooting that happened at a school.)

Nerves set afire

2
August

Have you ever felt REALLY nervous when you’re about to start to a new school? Well, this is worse than any nervous experience in my whole life…that I can think of. All of my friends keep asking me if I’m excited about going to college, my answer is:

NO!!!!!!!

I’m not excited. I’m nervous! VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY nervous! Not that I’ll fail (well, not very nervous). Not that I’ll be late for classes. I’m nervous about seeing all those people. I mean, there are 8,000 people who go to the 3 campuses of Calhoun. I really don’t want to embarrass myself in front of a fraction of those people.

*sigh*

I also keep telling them that sometimes I wonder if I’m ready for this. Then, they ask if I think I made the wrong decision when I dropped out. I KNOW that I made the right decision. I mean, I feel it in my heart. I know that I couldn’t have stayed one more second. High school was not for me. But there are so many things that I wish I could’ve experienced:

More pep rallies
2 Junior/Senior Proms (I quit a few months before the first one I’d have gone to)
The ability to be nominated for homecoming court (If Coach Val had written down MY name instead of Megan’s, I would’ve been on the nominations list…and it wasn’t that I didn’t get the votes of my homeroom. They voted for Leigh and me, but Coach Val LOVED Megan…:oP)
Senior Skip Day
Graduation
Saying goodbye to all my friends

I’m never going to get those things…I mean, yeah, I’ll graduate and I’ll have the chance to say goodbye to my friends before they go to college, but I won’t get 175 more days to say how much they mean to me. I won’t get all those little things that you don’t realize how much you love until they’re gone.

I have got to quit talking about this stuff, because I’m going to start crying. :*( I cry really easily.

You know, over the past few weeks, people have really only gotten to see the annoyed me. Well, from here on out, I’m going to try to focus more on me and my friends–online and off. :)

Oh, my mom has decided yet AGAIN that I can have a DIFFERENT time to take classes and this time, I’ll get them in Decatur. :o P She doesn’t want me to have to stay at school alone for two hours because she’ll have to drop me off at 2 so she can go to work…So, now I may have to go to school at 8 in the morning. That really doesn’t thrill me, because it’s about an hour from my house to the campus. NO FUN!!!!!

Aw…Xan looks so depressed. I don’t know if he’s really sad or if he just wants attention. (He is SOOOO good at manipulation.)

*yawn*

I slept for a little while longer this more after I took X-boy for his walk.

My butt hurts. I know, you didn’t need to know that, but…who cares? It’s my diary…it’s my butt, it hurts…I share. So…:oP

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I now have “Born to Make You Happy” by Pinky Spears in my head thanks to some stupid tv commercial.

Oh, that reminds me…I updated my AOL profile. It still looks stupid, but it’s mine so that makes sense. :) If you have AOL, just go to get a member profile and type in Jadimo. You’ll see my dorkiness.

Well, I guess I get to go check my faves. I want to thank those of you who’ve left nice notes over the past few weeks, because I don’t feel like I ever thank you guys enough. Nice notes really do touch my heart. :)

March

Okay, so I’ve been watching TRL. I realized something…I’m a walking contradiction.

I don’t mind Destiny’s Child and Christina Aguilera dancing and singing with their bodies 1/2 clothed, but I expect Britney Spears (of all people) to be more clothed. Why? She’s more of a role model for younger kids. Do you want your little five year old neighbor, child, cousin, etc. to be running around 1/2 dressed? I wouldn’t. It’s not really respectable. Oh well, it’s her life and her choice, not mine.

Oh! I finally got my domain up. http://www.fuzzypinkslippers.com.
