The War in Iraq
I never agreed with President Bush that we should invade Iraq. I understood that Saddam Hussein was a horrible man and should no longer be in power, but I didn’t understand why our country couldn’t get it through our thick heads that he didn’t have Weapons of Mass Destruction. We tried to find them. They weren’t there. We still attacked.
This war was not one trying to prevent terror or get rid of WMDs. It was one where a son was trying to finish what his father couldn’t. It was a war where vengeance was the name of the game, not anything having to do with right or wrong.
Now that I have established that I am opposed to the war and why we went to war. I must also state that I don’t think we can leave. We can’t just cause problems in a country and then leave. We have a moral obligation to stay and try to repair some of the damages. If we don’t stay, then we’re just going to allow what is left of the Iraqi republic to fall into terrorists’ hands. Terrorists that wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for us. We’re responsible for the problems in Iraq, so we have to try to fix it.
We can’t cut funding to the troops that are already over there. If we do that, then we guarantee that they’re going to die. I don’t want to see more American soldiers dying in an unjust war, but that’s exactly what will happen if we cut funding. They’re already fighting without the proper body armor. Imagine what they’ll be fighting without if we take away the rest of the funding.
