Feminism Is Not A Bad Word
Feminism isn’t a bad word, and I get so irritated when I see it treated as such. The actual definition of the word is:
feminism: NOUN: 1. Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. 2. The movement organized around this belief. Source: American Heritage Dictionary
People treat feminism like it’s some anti-feminine group, when it isn’t. Feminism is just the belief in the equality of the sexes. It’s not a “let’s hate other women” group or a “let’s do some male-bashing” group. All it is is a belief that women don’t deserve to be treated like crap for not being men.
I believe that I am just as much a human being as any guy in this world, and I believe that I deserve to be treated like a human being just as much as any guy in this world. I believe if I put in the same amount of work, have the same level of education, and have the same amount of experience as a guy, then I should be paid as much as a guy.
Forcing women to stay at home, accept lower-paying jobs, take the blame for the sex crimes against them, etc. is like forcing women into a segregation of the sexes. It tells women and girls that they aren’t as important as their male counterparts and that they aren’t as capable. It perpetuates ignorance, hate, intolerance, and is likely a cause for much psychological anguish for many girls and women.
I know that men don’t have equality in some areas, and I think that sucks, too. I think something has to be done to truly make men and women equal, and I think it starts at a personal level!
