Dying Is Not Justice
I nearly lost one of my close friends when her brother decided to attack her family with axes and hatchets. He killed her parents, and nearly killed my friend and her two brothers. He almost tried to kill another friend. When it happened, I wanted him to die. I had just seen his mother the day before, and I couldn’t get her face out of my head. I wanted him to pay for what he did.
Now that I’m older (this all happened when I was 14) I’m glad that he didn’t get put to death. He decided to plea guilty, and that saved his life. Unfortunately, I think by doing that he may not be getting the help he needed. (He was psychotic the night everything happened and had been having serious mental health issues for a while.) But I’m glad he’s not going to die. He had a problem and his solution was horrible, but I don’t think he should have to pay for it with his life. I don’t think that would do any good for anyone.
I don’t think that the death penalty does any good for anyone. It doesn’t bring back anyone. It doesn’t make the crimes not happen. It causes more grief because now the family of the accuser has to suffer. They don’t ask for that, but that’s their punishment for being related to the person. Murder is horrible, but killing someone just to exact vengeance just doesn’t seem right.
