A chicken processing plant in a nearby town is closing. I shouldn’t be surprised that people from around here are blaming Barack Obama for it closing. Everything gets blamed on him. If a business fails, it’s his fault. If a child dies from cancer, he was behind it. Everything and anything gets blamed on him. If they were blaming him for things that he might actually be responsible for, then I could understand it, but they blame him for things that are definitely not in his control. But if you suggest that these people might be racists or biased in some way against him or anyone else, they say that they aren’t. Of course, denying one’s racist tendencies is practically a requirement for old-school southerners. And a lot of people still practice old-school southern behaviors.
Their logic is simple. It isn’t racist to call him a monkey or big lips or to suggest that he should be lynched. It isn’t racist to blame a black dude for everything that goes on in your life. It isn’t racist to think he’s incompetent, even though he is obviously much more competent than his predecessor. That’s just good ol’ boy common sense. This little corner of the world seriously needs to get out of the 1860’s and learn how to interact with people of color without thinking that they’re always the bad guys.
To be honest, I’m surprised that so many people are up-in-arms about blaming Obama for the plant closing because this happens to be a plant that they typically shun for employing too many Hispanics. I guess they feel more love towards Hispanics than they do toward the President of their country that they claim to love so much. Yeah, they love it kind of like they love those babies before their born, the soldiers before they get home from war, and the sick/disabled before they go to the doctor to get checked out. These are the same people who blame a person’s poverty on the person and their lack of ability to “take responsibility for their own life.” I guess that they think that in those cases, there are two people responsible: the person receiving aid and Barack Obama. They’re the Sunday Christian crowd and they are some of the worst hypocrites.
I would say that one day these people would wake up and regret that they really never learned their Sunday School lessons about love, forgiveness, and acceptance, but I know that will never happen. A great awakening will not happen for people who have accepted so much hatred into their hearts and minds. These people will just continue their bigotry and they will raise their kids to be that way. I can only hope that someone will come along and teach those kids how to love instead. Until then, I shall read more and more of this type of dumbfuckery every day of my life; or at least that’s the plan until I figure out how to get my ass to a blue state.
