On the HB 56 (Alabama immigration law) thing:

Me: There is one thing that I was really looking forward to with the bill.
Dad: What?
Me: I was looking forward to all of the white people having to prove they aren’t from Canada.
Dad: I might not be able to do that. I was born awfully close to the border.
Me: Your mom was just trying to secure your immigration status.
(For the record, my dad was born in Michigan to a mom from Alabama. I said what I did because a lot of [local] people have said that the law isn’t meant to discriminate against any racial group, so I figured if they were being completely truthful [which they aren’t], then this would be what happened. I also know that there aren’t just white people in Canada.)
