30 Days of Truths: Day 3

Today is day 3, which is:

Day 3: Something you have to forgive yourself for.

I could probably make some kind of joke right now, which would be completely inappropriate, but that probably wouldn’t be as open as I’m hoping to be through this thing.

I have to forgive myself for my mom going in the hospital when I was 17 from her last overdose. Even though I know on a basic level that her overdose wasn’t my fault, I still blame myself. I still think that if I end up doing something and not being there for her when she needs me, then she’ll do it again or that something else will happen.

I know that there were a lot of issues going on the day that she OD’d, but I also know that if I hadn’t been in the hospital, then the person from the hospital wouldn’t have called her and said things that made all of the stressful events even that much worse for her to deal with. (And now, I have to forgive myself for a horrifically long run-on sentence.)
